Blog Challenge # 3- China or Japan
1. Asia Current Events: Taiwan
The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) is sending in three more vessels to protect the lives of Taiwanese fisherman in Taiwan. Coast Guards have heavily patrolled the waters of Taiwan since the death of a Taiwanese fisherman on May 9, 2013. The Taiwanese government has blamed the Philippines for calling the fishermen a “villain” and not a “victim”, without any presence of evidence. In addition, the Filipino Coast Guard who killed the fishermen said that the fishermen illegally came into Philippine waters and tried to ram his vessel into them. Detectives from both sides are looking into this. The Coast Guard Administration has a monitoring system from every available vessel, and can pinpoint the location of fishermen boats, so they can deal with any type of danger, and protect the fishermen and keep them safe.
A topic that is similar to this is the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East. It is similar because two sides are blaming and arguing with each other concerning who is wrong or right. In addition, they are blaming each other for who started it or who is the villain. This is sort of the like the Arab and Israeli conflict, because instead of fighting for land and other violent issues, they are fighting over the death of a Taiwanese fishermen. In the end, it will come down to who will have the most evidence.

One of the many big “booms” or trends in Japan, and this is one of the biggest, is the popularity of Manga. Manga, otherwise known as Japanese comics is a big thing and has grown bigger every year since it came out in the 1950’s. Manga started out as a little thing with the making of “Momotaro” by Keityama Seitaro in the 1910’s. It was the beginning of a great success in Japan and an influence to cartoonists all around the world. Based on some of the similarities I see between Manga and Disney creations, I would even guess that Manga and other Japanese comics influenced the great Walt Disney to create his cool Disney skits and comics with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
The two sources are similar because of their talk about how Manga, or cartoons, affected their views on artwork, cartoons and comics. In addition, how it changed a cartoonist’s view on how to create certain characters or how it will affect the readers all around. Back in the day cartoons were simple mediums or something you could create easily. However, Manga has influenced cartoonists to change their artistic views, and have ways where they can make their characters “pop” out of the book, or be able to mix mediums and be able to make the character look more realistic. In addition, Manga has also been affecting cartoonists all over the world. Without Manga, there would be fewer memorable characters like there are today.

The country of Japan was found before the start of the year 710. The country is said to have been united by the Yamato Dynasty, and there are stories of the sun god Amateasu, coming down to unify the people of Japan or (Kyushu). This is why the country is also called the “land of the rising sun”. During Japan’s growth, there was a time when Japan discovered Shintoism. They practiced this religion to worship nature, ancestors, and their heroes. This also led to today’s world known religion: Buddhism.
The “golden age” of Japan was during the Heian Period. This was during the ninth century through the twelfth century. This led to the social structure throughout Japan, and was marked by clans, shoguns, and family groups fighting for land. This also led to the start of the Daimyos and the elite class of the samurai. Also, this was a time for greed, power, and land throughout Japan. During this time, there was the start of the elite stealthy group called Ninja, and would also lead missions for the top Shogun, clan, or family group.
